Key Rings
So the first key ring attempt went good, did it within half an hour so if I take more time I could make it more detailed. My impatience and excitement is what ruined it in the end… don’t try and take it out of the oven by the tentacles when it’s still hot because it needs to cool to fully harden. Lesson learned.
(sorry for the poor quality
key ringphotos had to be taken on my phone)
The Accrington Pals
This was a play I recently saw at The Royal Exchange theatre based on a real life story during the First World War.
It dramatised the lives of the young men from Accrington and their mixed emotions regarding the war and the lives they’re leaving behind. What shines through the most is the powerful reactions of the mothers, wives, lovers and friends the lads have left behind.
It was a very dark, bleak yet moving piece; injected with amusing anecdotes and witty northern comedy giving it the lift in needed to deliver.
I JUST LOVE DEADLINES.
The Toxic Camera
Jane and Louise Wilson
This is currently an exhibition at the Whitworth Art Gallery; A must see for anyone remotely interested in beauty and destruction.
The exhibition promotes an 18minute short film by the Wilson’s that takes you through a series of anecdotes from the ‘veterans’ of Soviet director Vladimir Shevchenko’s film crew of his movie; Chernobyl: A Chronicle of Difficult Weeks. The cameraShevchenko used became highly radioactive during production and radiation soon became visible on the film itself.
Standing prominently in the main suite is a series of large scale photographs; portraying beautifully unpreserved interiors of the almost abandoned city of Pripyat. The derelict broken scenes of shadowed devastation are almost rich in their own decay.
Definitely worth a view.
These are some scenes I have created out of layered coloured paper, inspired by The First Cut exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery.
They were created in relation to my client brief, in which I had to create three scenes; a city scene, space and a jungle environment.
The First Cut
This is an exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery featuring pieces of paperwork from the likes of James Aldridge, Noriko Ambe, Su Blackwell, Tom Gallant and 27 other brilliantly talented artists.
The exhibition varies from giant 3D sculptures, 2D wall climbers and miniature worlds the size of your palm.
It is an extraordinary ability to be able to create something so visually stunning out of a material as simple and common in use; as paper. Such inspiring designs and creations.
These are some ink splatters I had fun with; watching the time it takes to move across the page and entwining with other colours.
This is part of my Picturing Time project. I enjoying experimenting with different mediums; we can class it as research but in reality it is just messy colourful fun.
National Media Museum
I thoroughly enjoyed this day out in Bradford; it was a pleasant experience.
